Chester is one of the new Cycling Demonstration Towns.
Chester Cycling Campaign is 'A Voice For Chester Cyclists'. As part of the governance arrangements for the CDT project, the Chester Cycling Campaign has been chosen to represent the local cycling community on the project Steering Group.
The Campaign has created a special CDT website as an interactive resource, enabling the Chester cycling community to participate in the CDT project. Check it out now, at: www.chestercyclecity.org.

A big improvement on the old crossing, which required you to lift the bike over. These gates appear to be controlled by magnetic lock (I didn't look closely but there's an odd lump on the side of each one).
These wood barriers have been placed to slow cyclists down. They do quite a good job of it and are easy to pass through.
Road closed signs on the Cheshire Cycleway (RCN 70). Although badger activity has undermined the road so that it is impassible for motors you can still walk or cycle through.See #103378 & #103379
Northgate Lock sign By the Shropshire Union canal as it passes under St Martin's Viaduct, Chester, England
Tarvin in Cheshire . The local landowners horse owners are blatenly blocking and intimidating path users with: dumping of manure, string and a horse box. The rest of the path will become overgrown through lack of use. No wonder NHS is overw ... [more]
Tarvin fotpath network is very unfriendly and definitely NOT smooth. United Utilities strap line "making life flow smoothly" does not apply here. The path around the UU treatment works is very badly maintained. Wouldn't take much to make it ... [more]
Tarvin Coop cycle parking. The stands are too close together. By removing the middle stand the same number of cycles can be accommodated . The removed stand can be used elsewhere at this store or at another.
Narrow bridge in Chester - the footbridge to the right is unusable, cyclists should wait for the green light to use the road.
Narrow bridge in Chester - the footbridge to the left is unusable, cyclists should wait for the green light to use the road.
The start of a cycle route parallel to the B5130 into Chester - and surely the sign has been turned around?
Cycle parking, for some reason, at the start of a cycle route parallel to the B5130 into Chester - and surely the sign to the right has been turned around?
It would be better to have a raised cushion across the side-road rather than the oh-so-predictable Cyclsists Dismount signs.
Private road to Eaton Hall - there are public footpaths through the Duke of Westminster's estate, so it would be great if a cycle route could use this bridge across the Dee and link up with Chester.
Plenty of space to park cycles at Great Budworth Ice Cream Farm and Tea Room. A popular stopping spot for cyclists close to the Cheshire Cycleway (RCN 70)
Literally just 100 metres of cycleway here beside the A41 would provide a safe link from the canalside NCN route 45 to the lanes to Saighton and Farndon.
NCN route 45 follows the tunnel-like towpath to the right, although it's possible to cross the road too.
The towpath looks a bit like a dead-end but NCN route 45 does go that way. I went up the ramp and over the road.
New footbridge across the canal by Waitrose and the Shot Tower, Chester - there's a lift there but it wasn't working.
Steps to the towpath in Chester - luckily the sign in the mid-distance suggests a level route, as long as I'm happy to tackle a roundabout and a short stretch of the A51.

Thoughtless road closure without dropped kerbs for cyclists - plenty of space for some bike stands too.
Sign reads: "Wait here until the cattle have passed." This chap had been waiting for at least 10 minutes when I arrived!
Busy road crossing at A550 junction, with option to cross the road slightly further along, where it is just as busy but there is a tiny traffic island in the middle of the road
No effort appears to have been made to convert this footway to shared-use other than to put up signs.
Lots of vehicles triggering the 50mph/Slow Down signs on A41 dual carriageway on approach to at-grade junction (see also #53676)
Personally, I'd choose the shared-use footways over the roadway any day! This was the only photo I took at this location where the '(50)/Slow Down' electronic signs weren't lit (see also #53677).
